The landscape of college athletics continues to evolve at an unprecedented pace. NIL legislation, transfer portal activity, conference. Realignment, revenue-sharing discussions, and federal intervention are reshaping opportunities for athletes and institutions alike.

Our mission is to help athletes, families, coaches, and organizations understand these changes while creating pathways to success through education, exposure, and empowerment.

This week’s report focuses on recruiting trends across the country and a deeper examination of the recently discussed Protect College Sports Act.

NATIONAL RECRUITING & NIL UPDATE

Transfer Portal Continues to Reshape Recruiting

College programs across the country continue to rely heavily on transfer  portal recruiting to address immediate roster needs. This trend has  increased competition for high school prospects and created a greater  need for athletes to distinguish themselves beyond athletic  performance.

What Athletes Need to Know

• Exposure matters more than ever.

• Academic performance remains a critical factor.

• Character and leadership continue to separate prospects. • Personal branding and social media presence influence  opportunities.

• Relationships remain the foundation of recruiting.

Athletes should focus on developing complete profiles that include  academics, athletic performance, leadership experience, and  community involvement.

NIL Market Continues to Mature

The NIL marketplace is becoming increasingly sophisticated. Brands are now evaluating:

• Audience engagement

• Content creation ability

• Community influence

• Personal character

• Long-term brand alignment

Athletes who understand marketing, communication, and relationship building are positioning themselves for greater opportunities both during  and after their playing careers.

Women’s Flag Football

Continues to Grow

Women’s flag football continues gaining momentum nationwide as  additional colleges launch programs and athletic departments explore  competitive opportunities.

As one of the fastest-growing sports in America, flag football is creating  new scholarship opportunities and expanding pathways for female  athletes seeking collegiate competition.

DDO remains committed to supporting this growth through camps,  mentorship, recruiting education, and strategic partnerships.

FEATURED ANALYSIS

THE PROTECT COLLEGE SPORTS ACT:

PROTECTING COLLEGE SPORTS OR PROTECTING THE EXISTING SYSTEM?

The recent Senate hearing surrounding the Protect College Sports Act  was presented as an effort to restore order,

fairness, and educational  integrity to college athletics. While many of the goals outlined during the hearing appear reasonable,  several statements made by lawmakers deserve closer examination.

The central question remains:

Is this legislation designed to protect college athletes, or is it designed to protect the institutions that profit from them?

Who Is Really Acting In Athletes’ Best Interests?

Commentary on the following recent Senate Hearing Statement

“Agents, boosters, and media companies are making decisions without the students’ best interests in mind.”

DDO Critical Question

If outside stakeholders are being criticized for pursuing their own interests, why are colleges largely exempt from the same scrutiny?

Areas Worth Examining

  • Escalating coaching salaries
  • Conference realignment decisions
  • Television-driven game scheduling
  • Expansion of postseason formats
  • Rising tuition and housing costs

DDO Commentary

If the conversation is truly about student welfare, accountability should extend to every stakeholder, not just agents, boosters, and media  companies.

Congressional Responsibility and Selective Intervention Senate Hearing Statement

“If college sports cannot enforce basic rules because of the laws Congress wrote, then Congress has the responsibility to adjust them because we are the only people who can.”

DDO Critical Question

Does this same responsibility apply when colleges continually increase  tuition, housing costs, and mandatory fees that many students struggle  to afford?

DDO COMMENTARY

Congress appears eager to intervene when athletic institutions face  instability but often demonstrates far less urgency when addressing  financial challenges affecting the broader student population.

Putting Education Back Into Athletics

Commentary on the following recent Senate Hearing Statement

“The PCS Act establishes a national rule book and puts education back  into college athletics.”

DDO Critical Question

Why is athlete compensation so frequently positioned as being in conflict with education?

DDO COMMENTARY

Today’s athletes are expected to:

  • Train year-round
  • Travel extensively
  • Participate in media obligations
  • Generate brand value
  • Contribute to institutional revenue

Perhaps the conversation should evolve from “student-athlete” to  “athlete with student responsibilities.”

The reality of modern college athletics may require a more honest description of the role athletes play within the collegiate ecosystem.

The Professional Opportunity Contradiction

Commentary on the following recent Senate Hearing Statement

“Most student-athletes will never play professionally.”

DDO Critical Question

Why does the American collegiate model differ so dramatically from  athletic development systems throughout the rest of the world?

DDO COMMENTARY

While only a small percentage of athletes reach professional leagues,  universities, conferences, media companies, and sponsors all generate  substantial revenue from the pursuit of that dream.

If the pursuit itself creates significant value, should athletes be the only  participants whose compensation opportunities remain heavily  regulated?

Professional Rights for Institutions vs. Athletes

Commentary on the following recent Senate Hearing Statement

“The PCS Act gives colleges the right to pool media rights, the same right given to professional sports leagues.”

DDO Critical Question

If colleges seek protections comparable to professional sports leagues, should athletes receive comparable protections as well?

areas worth considering

  • Revenue sharing
  • Long-term healthcare protections
  • Representation rights
  • Post-eligibility benefits
  • Collective athlete representation

The challenge moving forward is determining whether professional  business protections should exist solely for institutions or extend to the  athletes generating the value.

final thought

The future of college athletics should not be framed as a choice  between tradition and compensation.  The real challenge is creating a system that balances:

• Education

• Opportunity

• Fairness

• Athlete welfare

• Institutional sustainability

Until that balance is achieved, the debate surrounding NIL and college  athletics will continue.  At DDO, we believe athletes deserve both educational opportunities and  a fair seat at the table when decisions affecting their futures are being  made.

The rules may change. The legislation may evolve. The recruiting  landscape may continue to shift.

What should never change is your commitment to preparation.

At Divine Do Over Creations, we encourage every athlete, parent,  coach, and organization to focus on the things they can control:

✓ Building meaningful relationships

✓ Developing leadership skills

✓ Maintaining academic excellence

✓ Creating a positive personal brand

✓ Preparing for opportunities before they arrive

Too often, athletes wait until an offer is on the table, a coach reaches  out, or an NIL opportunity presents itself.
